A Letter From Our President to Our Family and Friends
To the Morningside Ministries Family:
Many of you are aware of the recent television coverage regarding an incident involving a resident and a former Morningside employee. Some of you may have seen the video where the former employee is shown treating a resident in an inappropriate and unacceptable manner. This behavior in no way reflects the standard of caring, excellence and quality of service for which Morningside Ministries has been known since our founding in 1961.
The former employee involved in this incident appears to have been acting in a manner entirely unacceptable to Morningside Ministries. For this reason, the employee was terminated promptly upon Morningside’s confirmation that unacceptable behavior had occurred. From the very outset of our learning of this incident, we have and will continue to cooperate fully with the authorities as the investigation continues.
Morningside was formed by and continues to maintain a strong relationship with three faith-based organizations. Our goal and mission has always been to offer loving, compassionate care and services to older adults at a level that meets their medical, social, and spiritual needs. This care and service is provided by employees who are called to this mission, who have a deep love for older adults, and who serve selflessly to offer residents and families their very best.
Please know that we are committed today to the same values, standards of care and loving treatment of residents as we have been throughout our history. Our mission has not changed. This unfortunate incident only strengthens our desire to see that older adults are treated with dignity, kindness, and appreciation.
Attached is another statement we made available to news media yesterday that emphasizes the precautions we take in our hiring practices and our sincere commitment to resident safety and freedom from abuse or intimidation.
I am grateful for your continued support of Morningside Ministries and your belief and confidence in the work we do.
Warm regards,
Alvin Loewenberg, President/CEO
