Dear Residents, Family Members, and Friends of Morningside Ministries,
Morningside is excited to introduce four new esteemed members to our Board of Directors. The organization welcomes Scott Kercheville, MD, Dora Mendoza, George Scofield, and Rev. David G. Reads.
Scott Kercheville, MD is a retired physician who attended Texas A&M University receiving a BS in Zoology, then obtained his MD at UTMB in Galveston. Subsequently, Scott completed a residency in anesthesiology also in Galveston. He returned to his hometown of SA joining a two-person anesthesia group but ultimately finished his career after 30+ years with Tejas Anesthesia, which was a large group formed by the merger of multiple practices. He left his group of seven years to become part of the faculty of UT Health Science Center at San Antonio’s Dept. of Anesthesiology, with two years as Medical Director of OR Services at University Hospital. During his time there, he took a sabbatical to work in the Office of Senator John Cornyn on health care policy and constituent work. He spent 25 years as part of the medical missionary group to Honduras, South Texas Physician Outreach. Scott is married the Marlise Kercheville, partner attorney at Kercheville & Badger. Both of their children (Emily & Joshua) graduated from the Mays School of Business, Texas A&M University.
Dora Mendoza retired from the United States Probation Office in 2017. While employed with the federal probation department, she served as the student internship coordinator. Ms. Mendoza worked in the field of criminal justice for 32 years after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration. After retirement, she was employed as an adjunct professor with San Antonio College, from 2018 to 2021. Ms. Mendoza has volunteered for various agencies including board member with Hispanas Unidas and mentor in the Big Brothers Big Sisters workplace program. She devotes her time to learning and sharing her experiences about the complexities of the foster care system and the mental health needs of children who have suffered trauma.
George Scofield is a former partner of now Norton Rose Fulbright where he practiced law in the healthcare and tax-exempt finance areas for over 40 years. George received his BA in Accounting and a law degree from LSU, and received a Master of Law degree from NYU. George has served as the Chair of the Board of San Antonio Medical Foundation, the Section of Taxation of the Texas Bar Association, and Any Baby Can of Texas. He has also served or is serving on the boards of United Way of San Antonio, Salvation Army, Connections Family Services, Charity Ball Association, BioMed SA, San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, among others.
Rev. David G. Read has served as Rector of St. Helena’s Episcopal Church & School in Boerne for 15 years. A native of San Antonio, he holds a Masters of Divinity degree from Virginia Theological Seminary, a Bachelor of Arts in History from Texas State University, and is a Doctoral Candidate at Bexley Seabury Seminary in Chicago. David has had several family members reside in Morningside communities during the last four decades, and his parents currently reside at Morningside Meadows. David is married to Jacqui – a preschool teacher and art teacher. They have a daughter, Amy Rogers who is an R.N. in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in San Antonio, and a son, Aidan Read, who is attending law school in Portland, Oregon. They are grandparents of twin granddaughters and one grandson. David has served as an Episcopal priest in Texas since 1992, serving in 4 parishes and on the boards of 4 Episcopal schools, and in various leadership positions in the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas.
We look forward to forging partnerships with Scott, Dora, George, and Rev. Read as we work towards the common mission of serving the residents and staff of Morningside. Each of their unique skills will undoubtedly contribute to enhancing the quality of life of those we serve here at Morningside Ministries.
