Marian Reeves
This truly remarkable lady at 102 was the oldest member of the Auxiliary of Morningside.
She also had the distinction of having been a member of our Auxiliary longer than anyone. Each unit has a piano which she played beautifully for residents for many years. She provided the music each Sunday for our worship services in the Morningside Chapel.
Even though she had this God-given talent for music and the piano, when I think of Marian, one word comes to mind: “Happy.” You almost never saw Marian when she did not have a smile on her face and a kind word for all.
There are a large number of us who think happiness is the impossible dream. But, there are some whose lives reflect an inner joy that says happiness is not impossible. Marian was one such person. She had discovered that the secret to happiness is:
Keep your heart free from hate, your mind free from worry. Live simply, expect little,
and give much. Fill your life with love, scatter sunshine. Forget self, think of others.
After 44 years of wearing the Blue Smock of our Auxiliary, and providing our residents with wonderful music, Marian has turned in her Blue Smock for a new White one, and she is now:
Out In The Fields With God
The little cares that fretted her,
She lost them yesterday,
Among the fields above the sea,
Among the winds at play.
Among the lowing of the herds,
The rustling of the trees,
Among the singing of the birds,
The humming of the bees.
The foolish fears of what might pass
Have all been cast away
Among the clover-scented grass
Among the New-morn hay.
Among the rustling of the corn
Where drowsy poppies nod,
Where ill thoughts die and good are born-
Out In The Fields With God!
