Dear Friends,
As we close out the year and look ahead to the promise of 2025, I’m delighted to share highlights of Morningside’s notable achievements and the exciting developments on the horizon. Together, we’re building a future that honors our mission to serve with excellence, compassion, and innovation.
Major Construction Projects
Green House Homes
Construction of the Green House Homes is on schedule, and we anticipate opening in late summer or early fall of 2025. This project exemplifies our commitment to providing exceptional care while honoring the dignity of our elders. The $10.25 million raised through our capital campaign ensures that we can serve more elders relying on Texas Medicaid.
Our teammates are currently undergoing specialized training in resident-centered best practices to ensure the success of these homes. With strong interest from the community, we are actively adding names to the waiting list, and we anticipate that the homes will be fully occupied upon opening.
Kaulbach Restoration
The restoration of Morningside’s first building has been amazing to watch. By August-September 2025, we will unveil 43 new assisted living apartments, 18 memory support apartments, 24 transitional care rooms, and a state-of-the-art rehab gym. These exceptional facilities will serve older adults with distinction and stand out as a beacon of care in the San Antonio area.
Terrace Homes at Menger Springs
We’re thrilled to announce that permits for utility infrastructure and framing are approved, with vertical construction set to begin within the next 90 days. Of the 74 homes, 54 have already been reserved by future residents, demonstrating the demand for this exceptional community.
Meadows Independent Living
Work in progress includes replacing apartment windows; power washing the building exterior; replacing fencing on first-floor patios; and updating landscaping. This phase of work is expected to be completed by early to mid-2025.
Upcoming work includes replacing windows and skylights in the atrium and renovating common areas, including wall coverings, flooring, and furnishings. This phase will extend into 2026.
Expanding Home and Community-Based Services
In 2025, we will launch Mission Home Health, Hospice, and Personal Assistance programs. These services mark a significant step in extending our care beyond our campuses and into the community. Expect to hear more about these programs and how to access them in the near future.
Investing in Staff Development
Our team remains at the heart of our success, and 2024 has been a banner year for professional growth:
- Now in its sixth year, the Academy for Career Excellence has seen 70% of participants graduate from the first level of the program. This milestone highlights the program’s continued success in empowering employees to advance their careers and reach new heights in their professional development. We’re excited to see this growth continue!
- Successful implementation of The Trainer Certification Program from Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care (PAC), officially certifying Cibolo House community as a PAC Aware Designated Organization. Special thanks to Shelley Heath, Emily Jellick, Shane Balero, and Tasnim Akhtar for their outstanding efforts in bringing high-quality dementia care training and education to our team!
- Congratulations to Shelley Heath on being accepted into the Leadership Collective program through LeadingAge Texas! This esteemed educational opportunity will further develop her leadership expertise and advance her contributions to our organization.
- We commend our employees for their dedication to professional development. This year, we’ve awarded $19,000 in Education Assistance through programs like tuition reimbursement, student loan repayment, and the Loewenberg caregiver scholarship.
Enhancing Dining Services
Morrison Dining Services now oversees operations at all three properties, with a dedicated Systems Director ensuring consistent excellence across Morningside. This partnership reflects our commitment to providing high-quality dining experiences for residents and staff.
A New Chapter for the Corporate Office
In January, we moved into the beautifully restored Chandler House. This space has allowed our corporate team to reconnect with the community, fostering collaboration and shared life with residents. The Chandler House serves as a symbol of our enduring commitment to Morningside’s legacy. We also have a productive partnership with Oasis, with seniors throughout San Antonio, including residents from our Chandler community, attending classes at the Chandler House.
