What is the Auxiliary of Morningside at the Meadows?
The Auxiliary of Morningside at the Meadows is made up of people of all ages who donate their time and talents, whether a few hours a week or a couple of hours a month, to making a meaningful impact on the lives of Morningside residents. Our volunteers play a big role in meeting the needs of residents and providing support to the staff.
Do I have to be a member of the Auxiliary to volunteer?
NO. Then why do we need an auxiliary? Why is it better for me to join the Auxiliary?
Like any organization, including Morningside Ministries, different departments require a group of individuals to direct, coordinate and communicate the various functions necessary. The Auxiliary of Morningside is no different. Because we support both staff and resident needs, a body of individuals is required. We have an Executive Board (President, Vice-president, Secretary and Treasurer) to help coordinate the various elements of our volunteer organization.
There is no cost to be a member, and there are no minimum or maximum number of hours requirements.
In what areas do Morningside volunteers participate?
Bingo Caller – Craft Leader – In Room Visitation – Rescue Dog Visits – Gift Shop
Popcorn Sales – Exercise Leader – Storyteller – Manicures – Table Games
Sewing Assistant – Special Talents – Birthday Bags – Shopper – Book Reading
Some of these activities are scheduled for specific times and days. Some have a greater degree of flexibility. This is one of the many tasks of our Executive Board.
Application Process
Application forms are available at the PBX Operators/Receptionist Desk, located at the entrance to Morningside Manor on St. Cloud Street. If you need directions, please call the Reception Desk at (210) 731-1000. You can fill out the forms there, or take them home to complete and return them to the receptionist. She will in turn send the forms to the HR department for the required background check. Once processed, the forms will be sent to Don Winkler, the President of the Auxiliary and the Morningside Ministries Recruiter.
Once Don receives them, he will call the applicant to schedule an interview and tour of Morningside. During the interview, we will determine which areas best fit with our requirements as well as your interests, availability and daily commitments.
As a volunteer at Morningside and a member of the Auxiliary, you will feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment. You will meet new people with like goals, make new friends and contribute meaningfully to your community. Many of our Auxiliary members have family who are, or have been, residents of Morningside.
If you have any additional questions at this time, please give me a call any evening between 6:00 and 9:00 PM. Don Winkler: (210) 827-3467 or email me at actrat@sbcglobal.net.
Thank you for your interest in becoming a part of a giving and caring group – The Auxiliary at Morningside.
