From charming bookstores and local bakeries to seasonal festivals and community events, Boerne offers countless opportunities to explore and enjoy the Texas Hill Country. Residents of Morningside at Menger Springs are just minutes away from many of the area’s most beloved destinations, making it easy to enjoy a memorable outing close to home. Whether you’re planning on showing guests around town or seeking ideas yourself, hopefully these recommendations will spark inspiration for your next day out.

Where to Eat:

Bear Moon Bakery & Cafe (401 S Main St, Boerne, TX 78006) regularly has a line down the sidewalk before its 7:00am opening, and for good reason. Their pastries, baked goods, and lunch offerings have cemented them as a Boerne staple. My recommendation: Some famous pigs-in-a-blanket and one of their seasonal drinks.

Richter Bakhous’ (153 S Main St, Boerne, TX 78006) is next door to several other downtown businesses, making it a great option if you’re looking to hang out in the area. They offer seasonal baked goods, boozy ice cream, and their famously massive cinnamon rolls. My recommendation: A Texas-sized cinnamon roll and seasonal specialty coffee.

Dienger Trading Company (210 N Main St, Boerne, TX 78006) is one of Boerne’s best brunch spots if you’re hungry for more than a pastry. Right now, you can start off your morning with their $9.99 breakfast special! My recommendation: Chicken pot pie and a Dienger Bakery item for dessert.

Bumdoodlers (929 N Main St, Boerne, TX 78006) lives up to its local reputation with sandwiches, daily soups, and homemade pies that are well worth a visit. My recommendation: The Bumdoodler’s Brainstorm sandwich, a cup of broccoli and cheese soup, and a slice of chocolate cream pie to take home.

Richter Tavern (153 S Main St, Boerne, TX 78006) is one of the oldest and best bar restaurants in the Texas Hill Country, offering a wide variety of great food and drinks alike. My recommendation: One of their authentic Neapolitan pizzas alongside the poached pear salad.

What to Do:

Find your next favorite book! The Bookshop Under the Windmill is located next to the Patrick Heath Public Library and offers a wide selection of used books – most priced under $10! If you’re looking for a more curated selection of new books, Boerne Bookshop is a cozy, boutique-style store in downtown.

Enjoy a wine tasting! Saint Tryphon Farm & Vineyard boasts great service and a comprehensive selection of wines and charcuterie that customers can enjoy in their breezy seating area. If you’re looking to make a day trip, Singing Water Vineyards is about a 30-minute drive from Boerne and offers a full menu alongside a wide range of wine offerings.

Go shopping! Boerne’s Main Street is full of cute boutiques, independent family businesses, and fantastic antique and thrift stores. Whether you’re shopping for yourself or others, you’re almost certain to have something to catch your eye. Additionally, Boerne Market Days are hosted on Main Plaza on the second weekend of every month! This is a great opportunity to discover local vendors, try new food, and witness some incredible local talents.

Explore the outdoors. Boerne offers some wonderful natural views, but there are a few spots that stand out. Cibolo Trail is one of the more popular trails, offering a scenic walk alongside Cibolo Creek. Old No.9 Trail is another well-known spot, with a historically relevant path that follows that of former Boerne transportation routes. Both trails are fully paved and ADA accessible, making them perfect options for all ages.

In Town for the Holidays?

May – September: The Moondance Outdoor Concert Series is hosted all summer long at The Cibolo, granting the community the chance to enjoy live music and local vendors. Concerts typically begin at 7:00pm on the last Saturday of each month, with picnic-style setups and ice chests encouraged.

October: Boerne’s German heritage is on full display in October as Oktoberfest celebrations are held across town. Local breweries host weekend-long festivities, and family-friendly celebrations such as Barktoberfest offer events such as dachshund races, musical performances, and costume contests.

Late November: Dickens on Main Street takes place the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving every year, transforming downtown Boerne into a Christmas wonderland. The annual tree lighting occurs amidst live music, fake snow, and countless festive offerings, kicking off Boerne’s holiday season with a bang.

Early December: Held on the first Saturday of December, the Weihnachts Parade has up to 100 live floats, bands, and performances that make their way down Main Street. As Boerne’s only night parade, Weihnachts is a uniquely exciting chance to celebrate the Christmas season.
